Residents of Obatedo in the Akure North Local Government Area were thrown into a state of panic early Tuesday morning following a violent assault by armed bandits on a road construction site.

?The attackers, suspected to be armed herdsmen, reportedly stormed the site on motorcycles, disrupting ongoing work on the Obatedo road and leaving workers fleeing for their lives.

?According to eyewitness accounts and viral footage captured at the scene, the gunmen arrived suddenly and opened fire on the construction crew. While no immediate fatalities among the workers have been confirmed, the gunfire forced operators to abandon their machinery and flee into the surrounding bush.

?The bandits then turned their attention to the heavy equipment, specifically targeting a tractor. After dussing the machinery, they set the tractor on fire, leaving it destroyed.

?In the recorded footage circulating on social media, the attackers can be heard shouting defiant claims over the crackle of the flames. One voice captured a bandit stating:
?"We say Ondo State belongs to us, and you have the effrontery to be constructing a road here."

?Construction work on the critical Obatedo road link has been put on hold as workers remain stranded and traumatized.

?The bold nature of the attack, coupled with the territorial claims made by the gunmen, has heightened tensions among residents in the Akure North axis.

?This is a developing story. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
